Comments: I have sock and slipper knitting on the brain, so I chose this variation on the usual k1, sl1 stitch frequently used when making heel-flap socks. Its worked the same way, except you knit the wrong side row instead of knitting it. The fabric is still very dense, and I imagine it would make the heel that much more sturdy. THis might be an interesting one to use in the soles of Elizabeth Zimmermann's Moccasin Socks.
